The Adjust Order Size feature allows you to instantly recalculate the recommended quantity of products in a purchase order. This is useful when you need to quickly increase or decrease the purchase volume to hit a specific stock goal or meet a supplier's promotion requirement without manually editing every product line.
What the "Adjust Order Size" Feature Does
This function works by applying a multiplier (or order factor) to the calculated target stock level (often referred to as the "order up to" level).
Calculation Example: If Optiply's default target stock is 20 units and you apply an order factor of 1.5, the new target stock becomes 30 units ($20 \times 1.5 = 30$).
Result: The recommended purchase quantity will increase based on this higher target.
Using this tool influences the final advised order quantity, while still respecting critical constraints:
Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)
Lot Size / Package Requirements
Current Stock Availability
Note on Manual Edits: Using the Adjust Order Size feature will overwrite any manual quantity adjustments you have made to product lines within the purchase order before clicking the recalculate button.
β
How to Recalculate the Order
Follow these steps to apply the order factor and recalculate the purchase advice:
Open the Order: Navigate to the specific purchase order you wish to modify.
Locate the Adjuster: Find the Adjust Order Size selector (often a dropdown menu or input field) within the order view. (Add screenshot showing the location of the selector and button).
Enter the Factor: Select or type in the desired order factor (multiplier).
To increase the order: Use a factor greater than 1.0 (e.g., 1.25 to increase advice by 25%).
To decrease the order: Use a factor less than 1.0 (e.g., 0.80 to decrease advice by 20%).
Confirm Recalculation: Click the Adjust Order Size button to apply the new factor.
The system will instantly recalculate and display the new suggested quantities for all products in the order.
β Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
When should I use the "Adjust Order Size" feature?
This feature is best used when you have a temporary goal for a specific order. Examples include:
Meeting a Vendor Minimum: If the order value is slightly below the required total.
Promotional Purchase: Temporarily increasing inventory for an expected sales spike.
Shipping Optimisation: Adjusting the size to fill a container or pallet exactly.
What is the difference between increasing the order size and manually editing the quantity?
When you manually edit the quantity, you are only changing one product line. When you use Adjust Order Size, you apply the multiplier to the target stock level for all relevant products in the order, recalculating the advice while respecting lot sizes and MOQs across the entire order.
If I adjust the order size, are lot sizes and MOQs ignored?
No. Even when you adjust the order size, Optiply's calculation ensures that the final suggested quantity always adheres to the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) and any required Lot Sizes (order in multiples of) that you have set for the product.
I adjusted the order size, but the quantities didn't change much. Why?
This can happen for two reasons:
MOQ Limit: If the product's Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) is already higher than the adjusted purchase advice, the system will keep the quantity at the MOQ.
Rounding: The quantity may be rounded up or down based on lot size requirements, which can minimise the visible change.
