πŸ†• Understanding the New-Product Label

The New-Product Label is an automated tag applied to products that have recently been introduced to your assortment. This label serves as a visual alert on your dashboard and purchase orders, signalling that the product has limited historical data.

The "New" Logic: How It Is Calculated

Optiply determines if a product is "New" by comparing its Introduction Date with its Supply Chain Cycle.

  • The Rule: A product is tagged NEW if it is younger than one full cycle length.

Product Age < Cycle Length β†’ Tagged "NEW"

1. Defining the Introduction Date

The Introduction Date is automatically determined by looking for the earliest recorded activity for that product. It is the earlier of these two dates:

  • First Stock Change: The first time inventory was added or adjusted.

  • First Sales Date: The first time the product was sold.

2. Defining the Cycle

The "Cycle" refers to the full replenishment period associated with the product (typically the Lead Time plus the Reorder Interval).

Strategic Usage: Why Check "NEW" Products?

The primary purpose of the NEW-product label is to alert you to low forecast confidence.

  • Limited Data: Because the product is new, there is relatively little historical sales data available for Optiply's algorithms to analyse.

  • Action Required: We advise you to manually check the order lines for any product marked NEW. You may need to apply your own market knowledge or launch expectations to adjust the purchase advice, as the automated forecast may not yet be fully stable.

Logic for Multiple Suppliers

If a product is connected to multiple suppliers, it may have different cycle lengths depending on which supplier is used.

  • The Rule: Optiply takes the longest cycle among all connected suppliers to determine if the product is still considered new.

Example: If Supplier A has a cycle of 30 days and Supplier B has a cycle of 60 days, the product will remain tagged as NEW until it is older than 60

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I manually remove the NEW label from a product?

No, the NEW label is applied automatically based on the system's calculation of the product's age relative to its supply chain cycle. It will disappear automatically once the product is older than the cycle length.

Does the NEW label affect the purchase advice calculation?

The label itself is just a visual indicator. However, because the product has a limited history, the purchase advice is often based on the initial forecast settings or trend detection for new items, which can be less stable than for established products.

Why is a product I added months ago still marked as NEW?

This happens if the product has a very long Cycle Length (e.g., long lead time + long reorder period). If the product is sourced from multiple suppliers, remember that Optiply uses the longest cycle to make this determination.

If I import sales history for a new product, will the label disappear?

Yes, if the imported sales history predates the current date by more than the cycle length, Optiply will recognise the product as "established" rather than new, and the label should disappear.
