π Mandatory Purchasing: Setting the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)
The Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) indicates the smallest number of units of a product that a supplier will allow you to order in a single purchase.
Optiply uses the MOQ when drawing up purchase order rules to ensure your final order adheres to the supplier's piece count requirement. When ordering a product with an MOQ greater than 1, Optiply will always order at least the specified minimum quantity.
How the Rounding Rule Works
Optiply's goal is to ensure the quantity meets both the inventory need and the supplier's minimum requirement.
Rule: If the calculated order advice is less than the set MOQ, Optiply rounds up the order advice to match the MOQ. If the advice is equal to or greater than the MOQ, the advice remains as calculated.
Example 1: If the MOQ is 5 and the order advice is 3, Optiply rounds up to 5.
Example 2: If the MOQ is 4 and the order advice is 6, the advice remains 6.

Editing the MOQ in Optiply (Bulk Upload)
For updating many products at once, you can use a bulk import file:
You can make changes to the MOQ in bulk by using our dedicated import template. This saves time when onboarding new suppliers or adjusting broad requirements. Check out this link for instructions and the file template.
Integration Note: The source system (WMS/ERP) you use may sync the MOQ automatically. Check the Integrations page to see if this metric is available and synced from your system
MOQ and Lot Size Combination
It is common to use both MOQ and Lot Size for the same product.
Combined Rule: If both are set, Optiply will apply both rules, resulting in the final purchase quantity that satisfies the highest requirement. For instance, if the advice is 5, the Lot Size is 10, and the MOQ is 20, the final order will be 20.
β Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Does MOQ affect the safety stock calculation?
No. The MOQ is a rule applied after Optiply has calculated the required inventory level, safety stock, and demand forecast. It is the final rounding adjustment based on supplier constraints.
If the MOQ is 20, but the Lot Size is 10, and my advice is 15, what will I order?
The final order quantity will be 20. The system first rounds up to the next Lot Size (20), and since 20 is equal to the MOQ, the requirement is satisfied. The final quantity must always meet or exceed the MOQ.
My supplier changes the MOQ frequently. Should I update it in Optiply?
Yes. You must update the MOQ in Optiply immediately. If the value is outdated, Optiply may generate purchase orders that are rejected by the supplier, causing delays and stockout risk.
If I source a product from two suppliers, do I set the MOQ twice?
Yes. The MOQ is a requirement set by the supplier, so you must edit the MOQ for that product under each relevant supplier on the Suppliers tab.
